DRAINING BY SUCTION: RECOMMENDED OR NOT?
Emptying by suction or gravity? Many motorists ask themselves this question and generally doubt the aspiration method. So is it really to be avoided or is it rather well suited? Let us try to answer this question together (I invite you to give your opinion at the bottom of the page).
Little reminder between emptying by gravitation and suction
For the less familiar let us clarify this difference: a gravity drain is done by the bleed screw located under the car while the other consists of sucking the oil through the dipstick. If the first method guarantees to easily empty the entire casing (if the car is flat ...), the second does not allow it to be done entirely. It remains to be seen to what extent ...
Risky, really worse?
Having tried it, and despite my reluctance, I must admit that the method rather surprised me by its effectiveness. I therefore proceeded to suction and then I emptied what was left in the housing by the bleed screw. To my surprise, there was almost nothing left, roughly the equivalent of what came out of my oil filter (or even a little less!), So not much. We can estimate this quantity of 5 to 10 cl maximum, which is really reasonable! And then it was not an oil more viscous than the rest, and there was not a single trace of filings (which remains very rare ultimately) ... However, the car on which I did the test had not been drained for two good years with a nice mileage to his credit.
